December 25, 1972: The Seattle Totems (WHL) played the Soviet Union Central Red Army team in an exhibition game at the Seattle Center Coliseum (later Key Arena) on Christmas Eve, 1972. The Soviets were regarded as one of the best teams in the world at the time and won the game 9-4.
