Square Stand Supported Hardware Accessories
The following hardware accessories are compatible with Square Stand. All hardware connecting directly to the Square Stand but will connect to the stand via USB.
Note that with Square Stand you can use either a cash drawer that plugs into the receipt printer or one that plugs into the USB block of the Square Stand. We recommend using the printer connection since the printer connected cash drawer is simpler and less expensive than the USB version.
Square Stand is compatible with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation iPads. The 1st generation iPad, iPad mini, and Android tablets are not compatible with Square Stand.

Add A Cash Drawer To Your Square Stand System
With the Square Stand system, you can use either a cash drawer that plugs into the receipt printer, or one that plugs into the USB block of the Square Stand.
Choose the method that suits your business best - but we typically recommend using the receipt printer connection, since this is simpler and far less expensive than the USB version.
Note that all cash drawers listed below have special money trays configured for Canadian currency.
1. Receipt Printer Connection: If the cash drawer is connected to the receipt printer: Whenever you print a receipt, the printer also sends a "drawer open" signal to the cash drawer and your cash drawer will open automatically.
2. USB Connection: If the cash drawer is connected via USB cable to the Square Stand: When you accept a cash payment, tap "Tender" from Square Register and your cash drawer will open automatically (If you've enabled PIN protection, you will need to provide the passcode).

Connect A USB Barcode Scanner To Your Square Stand System
- Plug your supported USB barcode scanner into one of the three USB ports found on the accessories hub.
- Once the USB barcode scanner is plugged in, Square Register will notify you that an accessory has been attached.
Note that you may connect a barcode scanner via USB cable to the Square Stand, but if you are using an iPad without Square Stand, the barcode scanner must be a bluetooth barcode scanner.
For more information on the correct bluetooth scanner to use when connecting directly to an iPad, click here.
For the Square Stand system, use the Motorola/Symbol LS2208 laser barcode scanner - which comes complete with a USB interface cable, and may be purchased either:

Food Services Industry? Add A Kitchen Printer

Connect A Kitchen Printer To Your Square Stand System
- You may plug a receipt printer into one of the three USB ports found on the Square Stand accessories hub, but kitchen printers are typically located some distance away from your checkout register - farther away than a USB cable will reach.
- That is why kitchen printers are usually connected to a WiFi router by an ethernet cable, not directly to the Square stand via USB.
- If you are using Square Stand, then you have a WiFi router - which is how your iPad connects to the internet. The kitchen printer should plug into the router, not the stand.
Kitchen printers are typically impact printers. They use a ribbon in the printing process. Impact printers are not affected by heat and are therefore best suited for use in places like kitchens. Impact printers, (called dot matrix printers), use an ink ribbon to print on regular paper.
The Star Micronics SP742 is an ideal printing solution for the kitchen. This fast, two-color printer offers crisp, easy to read type for quick viewing, a clamshell design for easy paper loading and an embedded power supply for space efficiency.
